Become A Friend of Fort Taylor
Why do people volunteer their valuable time or join organizations? It's because of a basic need of just about everyone of wanting to be associated with something and give back to their community. You don't have to live in Key West, be a Florida resident or a U.S. citizen to help preserve an important part of American history. All you have to do is have that interest in the park and American history. When you become a member of the Friends of Fort Taylor, you'll do your part to help support the park and help keep intact this fortress that served the nation from the American Civil War in 1861 to the end of World War II.
We are proud to say that we have members supporting Fort Taylor from around the world! With generous contributions from our members, the Friends of Fort Taylor will be able to continue to support the ongoing stabilization and interpretation of the fort. With generous contributions from our members, the Friends of Fort Taylor have been able to afford the construction of a replica iron carriage for the 1861 10-inch Rodman that's mounted inside one of the casemates and interpreted during regular ranger-led fort tours. The Friends of Fort Taylor have also purchased custom made upper iron cannon carriage mounts for the ten additional Civil War-era cannon excavated and conserved. Our plans are to raise monies to correctly mount a rare 10-inch Parrott Rifle that's listed in a national historic weapons directory. The Friends of Fort Taylor also financially assist Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park with improvements to the park's infrastructure. The Friends financed the construction of a water feature and new electric within the park's "Volunteer Village."

We are recruiting members for Wendell's Army - Wendell is a constant and concerned spirit whose attachment to the Fort springs from his dedicated service here during the Civil War years. He was an artillery sergeant who died of Yellow Fever in 1862. He has been "seen" and "experienced" on a regular basis by a number of people from visitors to park staff. He urges us not to forget those who served here and to not let his "house" deteriorate. The Support Our Fort Campaign is dedicated to the men who gave their lives in the service of our country, and the building of Fort Taylor.
The Support Our Fort Campaign is our year long fundraising effort to fund the restoration and historical interpretation of Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park. This annual campaign supports the matching funds required by most grants, and will allow us to preserve Fort Taylor for generations to come. Your contribution is tax deductible! Donate now! Thanks in advance!!
